Beginner's Makeup: Undertone

02:01:00

Bah! Day by day a new makeup term pops up on the twittersphere. I'm sure anyone involved in the makeup world has heard of the term "undertone" and how much (sorta) it affects your makeup collection and skills. Now I'm sure many of you are going "wtf is an undertone", but whenever you put on your makeup, do you feel like it looks off? Doesn't flatter you as well as you want it to? That, my beautiful little pigeons, is all due to the state of your undertone and the products you use. So, to answer the million dollar question, how can you tell your undertone?

Undertones can be divided into three categories; warm, cool and neutral. To help you blooming french fries understand, tackle and own your undertone, I shall be sharing a few tips and tricks on how to know fo shizzle your undertone.

1. Veins

Take a minute, stand outside in some natural light, and take a look at your veins. Are they more green, blue, or is it hard to tell? If it's more green, you're warm. Blue; you're cool. And if you can't tell, then you're neutral!

2. White Paper Test

Okay now go through your desk and get a piece of white paper, take off all your makeup and put it beside your face. How do you look beside it? Dull and sallow? Pretty good? Meh, no difference? What tones pop up more? Pink, yellow or nothing? If more pink tones pop up, you're cool. Yellow tones; you're warm. And for nothing, well you're neutral.

3. Burn or Tan?

When you're in the sun for long periods, do you easily burn (aka turn red) or tan (turn golden-ish)? Burning indicates that you''re cool toned, and tanning means that you're warm! But dudes, please, ALWAYS wear sunscreen. Give that skin some lovin' kays?

4. Gold or Silver?

When wearing jewellery/accessories, do you lean more towards silver or gold? If you look better in silver, you're cool toned, and if you like gold you're warm toned. Can rock both? You're neutral!
