Gooood evening, or morning, depending on where you are in this world. Since I talked about the best of drugstore makeup yesterday, I thought "why not make a post about a beginner's must haves?" today! When I first started venturing into makeup, I had a tough time looking for a post on what to buy as a beginner. Now, since the makeup world has evolved into a huge, beaten for the Gods monster, I'm sure this kind of post is everywhere from Twitter to Blogspot to YouTube. But hey man, I just thought I'd write my own. So, on to the post!

1. Foundation

Foundation is essential for a clean, flawless base that makes your look depending on your skin type and tone, of course. Foundation comes in many forms such as liquid or powder. As a beginner, I don't recommend you to spend a huge amount of money on foundation, or any other product, actually. Take your time to try and test different types of foundation and what suits you best. Also, do not buy your foundation based on what other people tell you to buy, without any knowledge of what kind of skin you have and your personal needs. If possible, asks for testers and try it out on a day out. Once you're comfortable and confident with the product, only then make the purchase.

2. Neutral Eyeshadow

This you can get either through a palette or eyeshadow singles. I personally recommend a palette because it'll be easier for you to mix and match the shades to figure out what will be your go to look. Take your time to swatch the eyeshadows, making sure they suit your undertone (warm or cool).

3. Eyeliner

The best kind of eyeliner for a beginner has to be a felt tip eyeliner pen! The sturdiness of the felt tip helps you to achieve your wing without any fuss. A liquid eyeliner is something that would take more practice, in my opinion, because of the brush used. Opt for something that's intense, but still foolproof.

4. Eyebrow Pencil

Doing your eyebrows can be intimidating and the biggest struggle if you aren't blessed with brows like Cara Delevigne's. So, get an eyebrow pencil instead of powder and wax, to practice how you'd like them filled in, arched and all that good stuff. Make sure you get a shade that matches your brow and roots! The biggest mistake anyone can do (even myself) is to buy an eyebrow pencil too light, making you look crazy, or just really bold.

5. Mascara

Mascara should be chosen base on either volume, length or curl. Drugstore mascaras do just as well as high end mascaras most of the time, so don't feel the need to buy a RM70 mascara when you can get a RM30 mascara that performs just as well!

6. Lipstick

Lipstick usually helps tie in the entire look. For your first buy, get something in a natural or soft shade such as mauve or pink tones (depending on your skin tone and undertone!!!). I would suggest a mauve toned lipstick because it can always be brought from day to night. If you're into the matte look, go ahead and get a matte lipstick! But, if you're someone who has issues with your lips getting dry, do opt for a satin finish lipstick as matte lipstick can dry out your lips and make them look shriveled.

I personally think that blusher and bronzer isn't an essential in a beginner's kit just because you'll need to go through some trial and error with basic stuff related to your skin tone and undertone like foundation before you know what shade, warmth and hues that suit you.
